70 years of Godot in Spanish / 70 Años de Godot en Castellano

El 31 de octubre se llevará a cabo en la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la Universidad
de Buenos Aires una mesa redonda para celebrar los 70 años de la primera traducción
de Esperando a Godot al español realizada en Buenos Aires por Pablo Palant y
publicada en la editorial Poseidón. Participarán de la mesa redonda Rubén Pires
(director de teatro) quien la ha llevado a escena en el año 2015, la profesora Natacha
Koss, docente de Historia del Teatro Universal y los profesores María Inés Castagnino y
Lucas Margarit, de la Cátedra de Literatura Inglesa y co-directores de la revista
Beckettiana (OPFyL, UBA).
Es una buena ocasión para volver a reflexionar sobre diferentes aspectos de la obra, su
difusión en nuestro medio, los problemas de la puesta en escena, la interpelación de la
obra en nuestra contemporaneidad y en el contexto del Capitaloceno, su presencia y
su sentido en una geografía marginal, su derrotero en Argentina, etc.

To celebrate the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the first translation of Waiting for Godot into Spanish, carried out in Buenos Aires by Pablo Palant and published by Editorial Poseidón, a special round table will be held at the School of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Buenos Aires. The panel for this event will include theatre director Rubén Pires, who staged the play in Buenos Aires in 2015; Professor Natacha Koss, of the department of History of Universal Theater; and Professors María Inés Castagnino and Lucas Margarit, from the department of English Literature and co-directors of the online journal Beckettiana.

The discussion will allow for an opportunity to reflect once again on different aspects of the play: how it became known to the Spanish-speaking world and to the Argentinian milieu in particular, its presence and meaning in various marginal territories, the problems posed by its staging, and how it questions our times in the context of the Capitalocene, among other issues.

The event will take place in Room 347, School of Philosophy and Letters, University of Buenos Aires at 6:00 PM on October 31.
